The THUNDERSNOW Contest is finished! Are you METAL enough to discover the truth and the victory?
Volume 1: A Shocking Rejoinder, by occultatio
Song title: unknown!
The first submission set the THUNDERSNOW bar to new heights. Wielding his Photoshop with as much might as THUNDERSNOW lead guitarist Dev Purkayastha had wielded his mighty guitar, the use of the lightening bolt dominates the landscape, while the cityscape - clearly, the city of BOSTON - comes alive to the power of THUNDERSNOW. The author took a risk in venturing into a new, non-authorized title, but indeed! It would seem this would become a newfound trend in the entries, but would his defiant gamble succeed?
Volume 2: The O's Have it, by foreign_devilry
Song title: "My Sword is Sharp as Winter"
Literally driven the mad rage by the first entry, foreign_devilry channeled the immortal Yngwie Malmsteen, and Unleashed The Fury. In a metaphorical kicking over of the metaphorical table (itself a difficult task, as this table is made of PURE METAL), the challenger used the originally submitted title, with the PRECISELY correct number of "O's". The power and drama of this choice was not missed by THUNDERSNOW Rhythm Guitarist Dev Purkayastha.
Volume 3: Global HWHAT???, by tpugh
Song title: "Whiteout On White Lightning (Plowed)"
The song title alone is a masterwork, showing a clear understanding of the fundamentally complex and disparate musical elements that compose the THUNDERSNOW global phenomenon. Indeed, this dish uses traditional elements in a non-traditional way, that the challenger says he learned while being an apprentice chef at the Louvre. THUNDERSNOW Brand Manager Dev Purkayastha pointed out the classic lineage of the barbarian on the front cover, while the spray paint promotes a hip new mesage that the youth of today can appreciate.
Volume 4: Like Hell, by daedalianmusing
Song title: unknown!
THUNDERSNOW Surgeon General Dev Purkayastha died during the judging of this title, proving once again that SMOKING (or in this case, burning) kills. Truly, it was a ruthless choice to use the final, charring moments of Purkayastha's life to create the cover you see here. And truly, it was a paradoxical act that the death of the man judging the picture was the instantiation of its creation. And yet: can anything be more METAL? Can anything be more THUNDERSNOW?
Volume 5: Know Your Role, by properlyjaded
Song title: "Icebolt"
properlyjaded initiated a defiance of her own, and injected her own homebrewed art into the composition. However, her scanner was stolen by anonymous rogues (read: kniedzw) requiring her to make do with use of makeshift photography. Despite these difficulties, THUNDERSNOW Production Intern Dev Purkayastha found himself mesmerized and taken by the lady in the picture, and swooned himself into a mad, sickening fury. As the lifeblood left his veins, and his lungs gave in to consumption, he used his last, desperate moments of strength to pen new, unreleased lyrics for use by the band. These lyrics are patent-pending.
And Winner Is...... properlyjaded!!
Strong competition all around. tpugh mastered the classical origins of THUNDERSNOW, while occultatio captured the very spirit of the age, despite it having been before his time. daedalianmusing represented the raw rage of the THUNDERSNOW ideology, while foreign_devilry wins points for his great attention to form and function, a key aspect of the ideology itself.
And yet: properlyjaded's entry was a cross between a Gibson Guitar and a Ha-Do-Ken, as she literally punched the judges the the face through the internet. Moreover, her pictures captures a sense of imminent, personified danger that composes both thunder and snow - and it's forbidden child, the ICEBOLT - into a single unified message. That message is "DO NOT F*CK WITH THUNDERSNOW".
She wins. And so, we will be recording our first and last track, "Icebolt". But! I will feature all of the other song titles as lyrics within the produced songs. (occultatio, daedalianmusing: I'm basically gonna use your LJ names in lieu of a submitted title.)
I'll try to post the song by the New Year, or perhaps by mid-January. Of course, I need to learn to play the guitar first.
Thank you for your wonderful submissions! WE SALUTE YOU.
